Desert Theatre League Honors Coyote StageWorks with a Dozen Desert Star Awards

The Desert Theatre League presented Coyote StageWorks a total of twelve Desert Star Awards at the Desert Theatre League's annual celebration and awards ceremony on October 14. The Desert Star Awards are presented each year by the Desert Theatre League to recognize excellence in the local theatre community. Almost thirty local theatre companies compete for the awards, which are given in the categories of Ballet, Youth Theatre, Drama, Musical/Opera/Pageant, Revue/Cabaret, Comedy, Staged Reading, One Acts, and Technical Awards. Founded in 1987,  the Desert Theatre League has been representing the interests of the Coachella Valley's theatre community for twenty five years. The Annual Desert Star Awards celebration and awards ceremony first took place in 1988.

"We were thrilled when we received nineteen nominations in thirteen categories," said Coyote Stageworks Artistic Director, Chuck Yates. "So when we ended up taking home twelve awards, we were absolutely ecstatic."  

Coyote Stageworks received a total of seven Desert Star Awards for its production of the Tony Award-Winning comedy BOEING-BOEING, and five Desert Star Awards for its production of the hit musical PLAID TIDINGS. In addition, Yates himself was the recipient of the special Joan Woodbury Mitchell Award, which is given annually to recognize the individual in the Coachella VAlley Theatre Community who motivates and inspires others to get theatre done.

Coyote StageWorks is a not-for-profit company dedicated to advancing theatre as a vital art form in the desert communities of the Coachella Valley. The company's mission is to provide a forum for thought-provoking, entertaining, and culturally significant works in an environment that nurtures the creativity of the individual and the enrichment of the community. This season, Coyote StageWorks will present SOUVENIR, the Tony Award Nominated story of Florence Foster Jenkins from November 23rd through December 2nd, 2012, a special One-Night-Only staged reading of THE WOMEN by Clare Booth Luce on January 19, 2013, SUDS: The Rocking 60'S Musical, from February 7th through February 17, 2013, and TRU, the Tony Award & Drama Desk Award-winning one-man show about Truman Capote, from April 18th through April 28th, 2013. The company will also present a very special FREE theatrical event as part of their new "PLAY DATES" community outreach series, featuring renowned actor and Emmy Award winner, Laurence Luckinbill, who will present a reading of his critically acclaimed, one-man play, CLARENCE DARROW TONIGHT! on March 10th, 2013.
