Ben Vereen Brings STEPPIN' OUT to Broad Stage Tonight, 10/19

Broadway legend, entertainment icon, and Tony Award winner Ben Vereen brings his hit show, Steppin' Out with Ben Vereen, to The Broad Stage at the Santa Monica College Performing Arts Center for one night only tonight, October 19, 2012 at 7:30 pm. Tickets are $110, $85, and $67 and are available online at www.thebroadstage.com. The Broad Stage is located at 1310 11th Street, Santa Monica, CA 90401. Parking: Free.

For over 40 years, Vereen has showcased his versatility and creativity, not only through his numerous film and television appearances, but also his countless one-man shows around the world. His latest one-man show, Steppin’ Out with Ben Vereen, is a song-and-dance musical tribute through his extraordinary career and life. This high-energy tribute to the music of Broadway, along with musical selections made famous by the likes of Frank Sinatra and Sammy Davis, Jr., is underscored by Vereen’s intimate and fascinating stories from his life.

Well known to theatre audiences for his Tony and Drama Desk winning performance in Pippin, Vereen has also appeared on Broadway in Wicked, Chicago, Fosse and Jelly's Last Jam. Television audiences will remember him from his celebrated portrayal of Chicken George in Roots, along with recent appearances on “How I Met Your Mother,” “Grey's Anatomy” (Prism Award) and “Law & Order: Criminal Intent.” In January 2012, Mr. Vereen was not only inducted into the Theatre Hall of Fame, but also in August 2012, he was honored with the Dance Theatre Hall of Fame.

Under the leadership of Director Dale Franzen and Artistic Chair Dustin Hoffman, The Eli and Edythe Broad Stage at the Santa Monica College Performing Arts Center opened its doors in Santa Monica in October 2008. Inspired by Italian “horseshoe” theaters, yet conceived in an absolutely contemporary vernacular, The Broad Stage is an artist’s dream and an audience’s delight. Unlike any performance space in the country, it is sublimely intimate with 499-seats and strikingly grand at the same time – allowing eye contact with artists from the boxes to the back row –forging a new kind of artist and audience experience in Los Angeles. Theater, dance, film, operas, musicals, symphony and chamber orchestras will be presented on one of the city’s largest proscenium stages. Designed without compromise to embrace the artistic process from inspiration to opening night, and conceived as a global theater and community hub. In addition to The Broad Stage, The Edye Second Space, a smaller black box theater, presents new, developing and innovative work in theater, music and dance as part of the Under the Radar Series. Featuring younger, innovative artists and chamber pieces and plays, programming at The Edye is intentionally spontaneous, reflecting the dynamic nature of the space and allowing the latest, most exciting artists to be booked on short notice.
