DOMA Theatre Announces 2012 Season of All Musicals, Begins With TOMMY

DOMA-Theatre-Co-Announces-2012-Season-of-All-Musicals-20010101

The DOMA Theatre Company has announced its first-ever season – a line up of six Broadway-style musicals sure to "disturb and delightz": The Who’s Tommy (March 23–April 15); Songs For A New World (May 11–June 3); Jekyll & Hyde, The Musical (July 6–29); Xanadu (Aug. 17–Sept. 9); Once On This Island (Sept. 21–Oct. 14), and a surprise, Tony Award-winning musical to be revealed at a later date (Nov. 2–Dec. 9).

“DOMA has been around for ten years, but we’ve flown under the radar until now,” suggest cofounders Marco Gomez and Dolf Ramos, who will team up to respectively direct and musical direct three out of six of the shows. “This first season of musicals marks our emergence onto the L.A. theater scene as a full-fledged, organized player. Our plan is to bring something extra to each of the productions; we plan to create a unique environment for each show that will make audience members feel as though they are a part of the story. We will augment expectations and deliver more than standard presentations. We can take familiar works and give them new twists.”

Adds producer Judi Jordan; “Each show will be highly stylized. Marco is known for implementing costume extravaganzas, and my experience as a fashion designer for 15 years will guarantee that each production will have a very unique look. We want to entertain all the senses.”

DOMA Theatre Co began as a joint venture between Ramos and Gomez in 2002. In the beginning, DOMA provided a platform for young talent to obtain experience performing in musical Theater Productions alongside seasoned professionals. As the company grew, it partnered with The Hope & Union Foundation, a California public benefit organization dedicated to the arts and to assisting at-risk youth. Through its partnership with the Foundation, DOMA was able to stage productions including new works (Lovers' Mayhem, Gallery), revivals (Cabaret, Into The Woods, The Wild Party, Passion, Jaques Brel…), and plays (Actor's Nightmare and Sister Mary Ignatius Explains It All).

All performances in the 2012 season will take place on Fridays and Saturdays @ 8 pm and Sundays @ 3 pm at The MET Theatre, 1089 N. Oxford Ave. Los Angeles CA 90029. Tickets range from $30 - $34.99; seniors and students with ID pay only $20. Secure, on-site parking is available for $5. A six-play season subscription package is available for $150 and includes preferred seating, free parking, and complimentary snacks and beverages. Fun-enhancing, unique pre-theater events such as party buses and audience participation for prizes are a part of what DOMA offers. For more information and to purchase individual tickets or subscribe to the 2012 season, the public should call 323-465-0693 or go to www.DomaTheatre.com.

The DOMA Theatre Company’s 2012 season is as follows:

The Who’s Tommy (March 23–April 15)
Book by Pete Townshend and Des McAnuff
Music and Lyrics by Pete Townshend
Additional Music and Lyrics by John Entwistle and Keith Moon
Directed by Hallie Baran
Musical Direction by Chris Raymond

DOMA opens the season with an electrifying revival of the Tony Award-winning rock opera based on The Who's classic 1969 double album. 'Tommy' is the exhilarating story of a deaf, dumb, and blind boy who transcends the cruelty of the world around him to find enlightenment. A tribute to hope, healing and the human spirit, Pete Townsend’s musical masterpiece is filled with iconic hit songs like Pinball Wizard; See Me, Feel Me; Acid Queen and more.

Songs For A New World (May 11–June 3)
Book, Music and Lyrics by Jason Robert Brown
Directed by Chris M. Allport
Musical Direction by Chris Raymond

Soaring melodies and irresistible rhythms mark this collection of story-songs by composer Jason Robert Brown (13, Parade). Sixteen driving, exquisitely crafted songs tell sixteen unique stories peopled by characters of today – “Songs For A New World.”
