East West PlayersÂ' A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC Extends Run 2 Weeks Through June 24

East West Players (EWP), the nation's largest producing organization of Asian American artistic work and the longest-running professional theatre of color in the country, has joined in community partnership with Academy for New Musical Theatre (ANMT) and the LA Opera Education and Community Programs. "We are very excited to partner with ANMT and the LA Opera for this production," says EWP producing artistic director Tim Dang. "The goal of this community partnership is to bring greater awareness of the missions of our respective organizations, all of which are connected to promoting the performing arts, and what better way than through musical theatre."

The performance run for A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC has been extended two weeks, through June 24th, 2012. All performances are staged at the David Henry Hwang Theater at the Union Center for the Arts at 120 Judge Joh Aiso St., Los Angeles, CA 90012. Performances are Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays at 8pm, and Sundays at 2pm.

The Academy for New Musical Theatre (ANMT) is a global community of writers, composers, producers, and actors who work together to create new musicals. In addition to staging entertaining and engaging musicals to delight audiences, ANMT also offers opportunities for talented individuals who want to join our community of musical theatre professionals in Los Angeles, and online. ANMT offers one of only three professional programs in the U.S. for writers, composers and lyricists in musical theatre. "East West Players is such a solid, important member of the Los Angeles theatre community," says Scott Guy, ANMT's Executive Director. "We're honored to partner with them, especially when they produce new musicals, of course, which are part of ANMT's mission. 'A Little Night Music' is one of my personal favorite musicals; I played Henrik a thousand years ago. EWP always does such fantastic, sensitive work with Sondheim's musicals, this production will undoubtedly be on the 'don't MISS!' list of EWP and Sondheim fans."

LA Opera Education and Community Programs "collaborate with numerous community centers, libraries, schools, and faith-based organizations to engage and serve our rich and diverse community. Each month, [the LA Opera] offers scores of free talks, recitals and programs in neighborhoods throughout LA County that inspire appreciation and engagement with this thrilling art form."

A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC by Stephen Sondheim (music and lyrics) and Hugh Wheeler (book) is directed by Tim Dang, musically directed by Caroline Su and choreographed by Reggie Lee. The cast of the production features Joseph Andreas, EJ Arriola, Tiffany-Marie Austin, Jon Jon Briones, Melody Butiu, Kerry K. Carnahan, Marcus Choi, Glenn Fernandez, Jalin Hsu, Jennifer Hubilla, Karen Huie, DT Matias, Maegan McConnell, Carly Peeters, Laurine Price, Kristina Reyes, Katy Tang, Sascha Tominaga and Paul Wong.

The award-winning musical, based on the 1955 Ingmar Bergman film Smiles of a Summer Night, explores the complexities of love and heartache as the summer night "smiles on the young, the fools, and the old." Since its Broadway debut in 1973, it has enjoyed numerous accolades and revivals, and features Sondheim's most well-known song, "Send in the Clowns."

Generous support for this production is provided by the S. Mark Taper Foundation Endowment for East West Players. Additional support is provided by the California Community Foundation, Shubert Foundation, LA County Board of Supervisors through the LA County Arts Commission, The Ralph M. Parsons Foundation, City of Los Angeles Department of Cultural Affairs, bank of America and Southern California Edison.
