Felix Pire Returns to L.A. Stage with THIS WAY TO YOUR RITUAL LOBOTOMY

Felix-Pire-Returns-to-LA-Stage-with-THIS-WAY-TO-YOUR-RITUAL-LOBOTOMY-20010101

Actor and solo performer Felix Pire brings his newest solo play to the United Solo Performance Festival on HALLOWEEN NIGHT at 9PM for its New York premiere. "This Way to Your Ritual Lobotomy" written by Guillermo Reyes, will play Monday, October 31st, 2011 at 9PM at Theatre
Row/STAGES, 410 West 42nd Street, New York City at the United Solo Theatre Festival.

This is Pire's third solo performance play. For his second effort, "The Origins of Happiness in Latin", written under fellowship to the Mark Taper Forum in Los Angeles, he won the Arizona Theatre Company's 2001 National Latino Playwriting Competition.

Now, the L.A. Ovation and New York Outer Critics Circle Award winning duo of Pire and Reyes (of the wildly successful Off-Broadway solo play, "Men on the Verge of a His-Panic Breakdown") return with a solo comedy that finds Latinos light years into the future.

Taking us on a random, computerized "hologram" tour of human characters from the "past", a futuristic neo-Cuban priest creates a "techno-ritual" through multi-media projections and bewitched transformations, which explains to us what humans "used to be like in the past", before the compulsory ritual lobotomy you will receive.

Ritualistic and possessed with multiple characters, Pire described by critics as a "ribbon
of energy", brings to bear a darkly Orwellian, satirically funny and deadly future. Reyes's language is clever and his notions of what comes, cutting to the political core as evidenced in its premise: The world is run by an authoritarian Big Brother-like dictatorship, headed off by
descendants of ElIan Gonzalez (the Cuban boy at the center of the internationally news-making, heated custody and immigration battle in 2000 involving Cuba and United States).

A few world wars later, humanity has entered its inevitable cybernetic future (not far from our own), where audiences must participate in this theatrical experience as part of having their intuitive frontal lobe excised. Only through your ritual lobotomy will you reach a state of "Infantilism", a feeling of total childlike bliss (which doesn't require thinking), consecrated by the motto of the future: "Don't worry, be happy." This elegant, sci-fi premised play, is laced with political satire, laughingly pointing to the danger of technology substituting for human communication.
