BroadwayWorld's High School Center is proud to showcase high school performance programs around the country in our weekly feature of 'High School in the Spotlight'.
This week's featured school is El Camino Real Charter High School located in the San Fernando Valley region of Los Angeles, California.
El Camino Real Charter High School Drama has been a vital part of the school community since its inception in 1969.
Theatre classes at El Camino include an introductory course in Drama which covers the basics of theatre including pantomime, oral interpretation, character development, blocking and scene work, as well as production elements such as sets design, lighting and costume design. Other courses focus on Improvisation and Directing.
Students are also encouraged to take part in play production with Grade 10-12 classes producing 1-2 Mainstage productions and attending 2-3 drama festivals during the year. For those wanting to take a technical route, there are opportunities to work behind the scenes in production design.
ECRCHS also maintains an active International Thespians membership and many seniors have graduated with Thespian honors. In addition to winning many awards at the festivals, the school has represented American High School Theatre at the Fringe Festival in Scotland.
The Theatre Department's next production is LEGALLY BLONDE THE MUSICAL which will take place March 14-16. For tickets and more information, click here.
