Kentwood Players Hold Costume and Vintage Clothing Yard Sale Today, 9/29

Whoever you want to be this Halloween, the Kentwood Players can help you put together a look, whether it's Merida from "Brave," one of "The Avengers" or a "Spice Girl" (they reunited), Prince William & Kate, Joan from "Mad Men" or someone from "GAME OF THRONES" or "Downton Abbey" - we even have a full-size "cockroach costume."

The community theater group will hold a costume and vintage clothing yard sale today, September 29, 2012 from 7:30am to 3:00pm in front of the Westchester Playhouse, located at 8301 Hindry Avenue in Westchester (LA 90045). And remember, it’s Carmagheddon weekend, so make plans to stay in town and shop locally. You can easily access the Westchester Playhouse from the Westside by driving down La Cienega or driving up Aviation from the South Bay, or via the 405 freeway which will be open in our area.

Items for sale will include lots of costumes from theatrical productions, new (unused) vintage pieces in all sizes from the 60’s, 70’s and 80’s, (including some PLUS-SIZE sexy satin corsets), lots of fur coats and beautiful sequined and beaded blouses, plus wearable clothing including dresses, suits, pants, hats, shoes, gloves, wigs and other assorted clothing items – all at very reasonable prices! Many specialty items and miscellaneous odds and ends will also be offered for sale by this community theater group that has been in existence over 60 years. So make plans to stay in town and shop early for your Halloween costume or holiday vintage outfit this year today, September 29 at the Westchester Playhouse.

And don’t miss these outstanding Kentwood Players productions at the Westchester Playhouse this year. “SCREAM QUEENS - The Musical” with book, music and lyrics by Scott Martin, choreography by Victoria Miller, with Susan Goldman Weisbarth producing by special arrangement with Samuel French, Inc. At an annual convention for fans, collectors and celebrities of the direct-to-video B-movie horror film genre, six of the sexiest and most popular actresses in the business, collectively known as The Scream Queens, strut their stuff, sing, dance, clown and tease, taking us on a hilarious journey through their lives and careers as celebrity hopefuls and cult sex symbols. Performances take place from September 14 to October 20 on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00pm and Sundays at 2:00pm. Tickets are $23.00 with a $2.00 discount for seniors, students, servicemen, and Metro riders.

And for the whole family, don’t miss the Kentwood Kids production, "Rockin' Robin Hood," a musical written by Scott Martin, directed by Samantha Barrios, produced by Drew Fitzsimmons and Melodie S. Rivers with Martin Feldman as musical director. Sideburns and ducktails invade Sherwood Forest as Robin Hood, his Merry Men, and the Sheriff of Nottingham, along with lots of assorted peasants and courtiers; meet the music of Elvis Presley. This musical melodrama promises to keep you cheering for the heroes and booing the villains as they sing song parodies from the 1950’s in their own "Rockin' Robin Hood" style. Performances take place on Saturdays, October 6, 13, and 20 at 11:00am and 2:00pm. Tickets are $10 or $35 for a family four-pack. Please note an adult must accompany all children in the theater.

Lee Blessing’s political farce “Fortinbras” is directed by Drew Fitzsimmons, and produced by Melodie S. Rivers and Bruce Starrett by special arrangement with Dramatist Play Service, Inc., New York . Full of contemporary wit and language and inescapably relevant to today's political scene during this election year, the play begins where William Shakespeare's “Hamlet” left off. When the lights go up, Hamlet dies and Fortinbras rushes in where flights of angels fear to tread. "What's all this?" is his official reaction to the bodies. And no one is more tickled than he by news of the royal succession. "How many people walk in the door," says he, "and - boom, they're king?" He devises the best possible Media Blitz to legitimize his ascension to the throne of Denmark, but in this political farce, Kingship is just not all it's cracked up to be! Performances will take place from November 9 to December 15 on Fridays and Saturdays at 8:00pm and Sundays at 2:00pm. Tickets are $18.00 with a $2.00 discount for seniors, students, servicemen, and Metro riders.
