Beginning Saturday, November 27, L.A. Theatre Works' Radio Theatre Series will air The Grapes of Wrath by John Steinbeck, adapted by Frank Galati. The 19-member cast is led by Shirley Knight, Jeffrey Donovan, and Francis Guinan, with original music performed by The Joel Rafael Band. The broadcast can be heard locally in Southern California on Saturday from 10 pm to midnight on 89.3 KPCC, and can also be streamed on demand at http://www.latw.org/.

Driven by the rhythms of country fiddles and campground guitars, this Tony Award-winning adaptation tells the compelling story of the Joad family's trek from the Oklahoma dust bowl to the fields of California during the Great Depression. Included with the broadcast is an excerpt from the radio documentary "Voices from the Dustbowl," a collection of archive recordings made in California's labor migrant camps in the summer of 1940 that is part of the Peabody award-winning public radio series "Lost and Found Sound." The documentary is narrated by Charles Todd who made the recordings nearly 70 years ago for the Library of Congress.

L.A. Theatre Works' radio theater series can also be heard on the following stations (check local listings for broadcast times): 89.7 WGBH, Boston; 91.5 WBEZ, Chicago; 94.9 KUOW, Seattle; 90.1 WABE, Atlanta; 94.1 KPFA, Berkeley; 91.1 KRCB, North Bay (San Francisco); and many other stations nationwide.

Major funding for L.A. Theatre Works broadcast series is provided by the S. Mark Taper Foundation. Founded in 1989, the S. Mark Taper Foundation is a private family foundation dedicated to enhancing the quality of people's lives by supporting non-profit organizations and their work in the community.
