LA MIRADA THEATRE FOR THE PERFORMING ARTS & MC COY RIGBY ENTERTAINMENT present the fifth and final production of their 2010-2011 season of shows, the critically-acclaimed, smash-hit musical comedy THE MARVELOUS WONDERETTES, written, created and directed by Roger Bean, musical direction by Brian Baker, choreography by Janet Miller and starring former and original Wonderettes, Misty Cotton, Beth Malone, Leslie Spencer and Lowe Taylor. THE MARVELOUS WONDERETTES will open on Friday, June 3 (with a press opening on Saturday, June 4) and run through Sunday, June 19 at La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts, 14900 La Mirada Blvd in La Mirada.

A cotton-candy colored, nonstop pop musical blast from the past! Featuring your favorite songs from the ‘50s and ‘60s, The Marvelous Wonderettes takes you to the 1958 Springfield High School prom where we meet the Wonderettes - Betty Jean, Cindy Lou, Missy and Suzy, four girls with hopes and dreams as big as their crinoline skirts and voices to match! As we learn about their lives and loves, we are treated to the girls performing such classic ‘50s and ‘60s songs as "Lollipop," "Dream Lover," "Stupid Cupid," "Lipstick on Your Collar," "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me," "It's My Party," "It's In His Kiss (The Shoop Shoop Song)" and so many more! You've never had this much fun at a prom and you will never forget The Marvelous Wonderettes - a must-take musical trip down memory lane!

ABOUT THE CREATIVE TEAM

Roger Bean (Director) created and directed the long-running Off-Broadway and Los Angeles productions of The Marvelous Wonderettes. MR. Bean received two Los Angeles Ovation Award nominations for Best Director of a Musical for both The Marvelous Wonderettes and its holiday sequel Winter Wonderettes. In 2007 The Marvelous Wonderettes received the Los Angeles Ovation Award for Best Musical. Original cast albums for both Wonderettes shows are now available from PS Classics (The Marvelous Wonderettes) and LML Music (Winter Wonderettes) - look for both on iTunes. Other musicals and revues created by MR. Bean include the cross-dressing ‘40s musical The Andrews Brothers (over 50 productions throughout the country) and Route 66 (over 100 productions throughout the country, including two national tours). MR. Bean also created the recent long-running Los Angeles hit Life Could Be A Dream, which received the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award, the LA Weekly Theatre Award, and the Backstage Garland Award for Best/Outstanding Musical of 2010. MR. Bean has had the pleasure of writing and directing for the Milwaukee Repertory Theater, Laguna Playhouse, Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera, Musical Theatre West, San Jose Rep, Sacramento Music Circus, Capital Rep, Utah Shakespeare Festival, Oregon Cabaret Theatre, Delaware Theatre Company, and numerous stages in-between. MR. Bean's new musical, Summer of Love, recently had its World Premiere at Musical Theatre West in Long Beach. This newest show is about the late-sixties counter-cultural revolution in San Francisco, and will have its East Coast premiere at Maine's Ogunquit Playhouse this summer.

Janet Miller (Choreographer) is a director, choreographer and educator. Her choreography was seen Off-Broadway at The Westside Theatre in The Marvelous Wonderettes. She received a 2009 Lucille Lortel Award nomination for Outstanding Choreographer for this production. In 2010, Janet was thrilled to stage her original choreography at Musical Theatre West/Norris Theatre, (receiving a LA Stage Alliance 2009/2010 Ovation nomination) Capital Rep in Albany NY, San Jose Rep, Theatre Aspen, and Sacramento Music Circus.

In 2011, The Wonderettes has taken her to The Plymouth Playhouse in Minneapolis, Cabrillo Music Theater, Pittsburgh CLO, and later this summer, The Moonlight Amphitheatre. Ms. Miller received a 2003 Choreography Garland, in addition to the 2006 Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle Award for Best Choreography for The Marvelous Wonderettes. In 2008, Janet received a Garland and a LADCC award for Best Choreography for Winter Wonderettes. Ms. Miller is currently the Resident Director for Phantom Projects Theatre Group housed at the La Mirada Theatre for the Performing Arts. Last season for Phantom, she was honored to direct Lydia R. Diamond's adaptation of the Toni Morrison book, The Bluest Eye to critical acclaim. This production, recently remounted at the Miles Playhouse in Santa Monica, garnered rave reviews. JM holds a B.A. in musical theatre from CSUN, and an M.A. in theatre from CSULA. She is adjunct faculty at UCLA, Cerritos College and CSULA, and a proud member of SDC.

THE MARVELOUS WONDERETTES has assembled an award-winning design team. The Lighting Design is by Jeremy Pivnick. The Sound Design is by Josh Bessom. The Costume Design is by Bobby Pearce. The stage manager is Vernon Willett.

ABOUT THE SCHEDULE AND PRICING

THE MARVELOUS WONDERETTES will begin performances on Friday, June 3, 2011 (with a press opening on Saturday, June 4) and runs for three weeks through Sunday, June 19.

Performances will be 7:30pm on Tuesdays through Thursdays; 8pm on Fridays; 2pm and 8pm on Saturdays; and 2pm and 7pm on Sundays.

There will be no matinee performance on Saturday, June 4 and no evening performance on Sunday, June 5. There will be a talk-back session following the performance on Tuesday, June 7.
