Late October Theatre Opportunities on the Central Coast of California

Late-October-Theatre-Opportunities-on-the-Central-Coast-of-California-20010101

As we move into the last week of October, I trust you will want to make certain that attending a couple of the theatre and live performance productions that are presently (or soon will be) running at one of the numerous live entertainment venues here in this little piece of paradise that we call the Central Coast of California is on your social calendar!

Murder In Mind Productions (www.murderinmind.com) will present The Addams Family Reunion through November 6 at The Spyglass Inn in Shell Beach [NOTE: Saw the Oct 2 performance - FUN show!] (reservations required).

Come see Fester, Grandmama, Gomez, Morticia, Wednesday, and ... Marilyn Munster (?) as they lead us through a rather bizarre murder mystery "whodunit" set of circumstances.  And yes - there is a prize for the one who figures it out!

SLO Little Theatre (www.slolittletheatre.org) is pleased to announce auditions for My Generation on November 8 & 9 (performances February 17 - March 25).  A special engagement of Between Iraq and a Hard Place and Killing Me Softly With Jazz Hands, starring Jill Turnbow and Beck Pedigo, will be presented November 11 & 12.   Ubu's Other Shoe readers' theatre next production will be The Cocktail Party on November 18 & 19.

Next on the SLOLT main stage will be A Christmas Story, December 2-23.  ACT's (Academy of Creative Theatre) The Little Prince will be presented January 13-29.

The God Is Still Speaking Players (https://www.facebook.com/#!/groups/92718528887) was proud to present Sister Amnesia's Country Western Nunsense Jamboree last month.  Next up?  "Celebration In Song" - a musical variety show, November 19 & 20 at 2 PM, to benefit the good works of GALA and PFLAG here on the Central Coast.

Kelrik Productions' (www.kelrikproductions.com) was pleased to present From Main Street to 42nd Street in August, featuring Jacque Carnahan.  Stay tuned for what's next (I'm hearing rumblings about productions of A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum and Avenue Q)!

Upcoming performances at the Cal Poly Performing Arts Center (www.pacslo.org) include Pilobolus on October 30, "Weird Al" Yankovic - The Alpocalypse Tour on November 2, The MET Live in HD: Wagner's Siegfried on November 5, Hideo - A Theatrical Concert of Music from Japanese Animation and Video Games on November 5, Grammy-winning singer/songwriter Marc Cohn on November 6, Rick Miller's MacHomer on November 7, and Pink Martini (with guest singer Storm Large) on November 9.

The Pewter Plough Playhouse (www.pewterploughplayhouse.org) in Cambria will present A.R. Gurney's The Fourth Wall through October 30 [NOTE: Saw this production during its San Luis Obispo run in April/May and it's a GREAT show!].

The Theatre at the Old Grammar School in Cambria (TOGS) (http://artistsofcambria.com/cambriapac/id4.html) and Allied Arts Theatre will present Dearly Departed through November 20.

The Spot (https://www.facebook.com/#!/hit.the.spot) in Arroyo Grande will host the Rocky Horror Picture Show with Shadow Cast October 28, 29 & 31, The Poetic Justics Project's Women Behind the Walls November 4-6, and the adult themed one act Women and Wallace November 11 & 12 and 18 & 19 (no one under 16 will be admitted).

Sorcerer Productions (https://www.facebook.com/#!/pages/Sorcerer-Productions/105954829426281) will present Plaid Tidings November 25 - December 18 in the Clark Center Studio Theatre in Arroyo Grande.

LIVE UPDATE: PIPPIN vs. JEKYLL & HYDE for Best Revival of a Musical and More...

Curt MinerCurt Miner received his degree in theatre from Northern Arizona University and has been involved in theatre, educationally and professionally, for nearly 40 years now. He is currently Pastor of the United Church of Christ in San Luis Obispo, CA (www.sloucc.org), where he founded a theatre outreach ministry known as The God Is Still Speaking Players (check them out on Facebook). Their first production was the West Coast Premiere of a new play by Gordon Greene (one of Curt's former theatre professors from back at NAU) entitled "The Scopes Monkey Trial: What Really Happened" in October of 2008. Curt and his wife of 35 years, Linda, worked together as Director and Music Director on a production of "Godspell" June 2009. The group presented a readers' theatre production of Archibald MacLeish's Tony Award and Pulitzer Prize winning play "J.B." November 2009, participated in a collaborative effort with Bent Angel Productions in a staged reading of "12 Angry Men" in February 2010, presented "You're A Good Man, Charlie Brown" the first 2 weekends of September 2010, embarked upon another collaborative effort with Bent Angel Productions of a staged reading of Dylan Thomas' "Under Milk Wood" in November 2010, presented a readers' theatre production of "The Diary of Anne Frank" the first weekend this past March, mounted a production of "Sister Amnesia's Country Western Nunsense Jamboree" the first 2 weekends of September, and presented "Celebration In Song" - a musical variety show to benefit the work of GALA and PFLAG in November. A readers' theatre presentation (possibly "Our Town") or another musical revue will be presented this coming March, with "Snoopy" (sequel to YAGMCB) on the schedule for the first 2 weekends in September. When people ask him "Why a theatre outreach ministry?" Curt tells them "I have found that theatre is sometimes able to touch a person's heart and soul more deeply than the best crafted worship experience ... that's why."
