Odile Gilbert, James Kaliardos and Adam Silverman Join LA Phil's DON GIOVANNI Production Team

The Los Angeles Philharmonic welcomes to the Don Giovanni production team hairstylist Odile Gilbert, make-up artist James Kaliardos for NARS Cosmetics and Lighting Designer Adam Silverman.

Associated with the catwalks of Paris, New York and Milan, the images of the most famous fashion photographers and the advertising campaigns of the most prestigious houses, Odile Gilbert’s work as a hairstylist has been one of the mainstays of the fashion industry for the past decade. Odile started her career in 1975 as an apprentice in the Paris studio of the late Bruno Pittini, and sharpened her skills working with photographers such as Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, Richard Avedon, Steven Klein, Nick Knight, Inez van Lamsweerde and Vinoodh Matadin, Karl Lagerfeld, Peter Lindbergh, Craig McDean, Jean-Baptiste Mondino, Helmut Newton, Irving Penn and Paolo Roversi. Odile’s advertising works includes campaigns for various famous houses, including Chanel, Dior Fragrance, Lancôme, Giorgio Armani, Jean Paul Gaultier, Hermès, Bottega Veneta to name just a few. Working with both famous fashion houses and young designers, Odile is perhaps best known for her work with Christian Dior, Chanel, Jean-Paul Gaultier, Christian Lacroix and more recently Vanessa Bruno, Alexis Mabille, Rodarte, Thakoon and Jason Wu.

World-renowned makeup artist James Kaliardos brings a unique combination of glamour and chic minimalism to the realm of fashion photography. He has collaborated with photographers Annie Leibovitz, Steven Klein, David Sims, Steven Meisel, Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott, Peter Lindbergh, Mario Testino, Paolo Roversi, Irving Penn, and the late Richard Avedon. His work can be seen in American, British, and Italian Vogue, Allure, W and V magazines. He has created looks for campaigns and runway shows for Balenciaga, Chanel, Hermès, Fendi, Versace, Jean Paul Gaultier, Yves Saint Laurent, Rodarte, Dior Homme, Y-3, Rochas, Preen, as well as campaigns for L'Oréal, Revlon, Shiseido, Cover Girl, and Victoria's Secret. In 2003, he became the consultant for L'Oréal Paris, the first makeup artist to hold this position in the company. Some of the celebrities Kaliardos has also worked with include: Madonna, Julianne Moore, Beyonce, Nicole Kidman, Angelina Jolie, Cameron Diaz, Kate Winslet, Jennifer Connelly, Tyra Banks, Drew Barrymore, Sarah Jessica Parker, Björk, and Chloë Sevigny.

In addition to his makeup styling, Kaliardos was one of the co-founders of the art and fashion publication Visionaire in 1991, a uniquely creative outlet for hundreds of artists, which has become the fashion and culture magazine V. In 1996, he also founded the New York based Innocent Theatre Company, which produces both new works and revivals of classics with an infusion of contemporary art and fashion.

Adam Silverman works as a lighting designer in opera, theater and dance. Recent productions include Misterman starring Cillian Murphy at the Royal National Theatre; Michael Sheen's Hamlet at the Young Vic Theatre London; Deidamia and l’Ercole Amante for the De Nederlandse Opera; Norma for Opera North; Fabulous Beast Dance Theatre’s Rian, Helen and Hell, The Rite of Spring and Giselle; My Fair Lady at the Chatelet; Adriana Lecouvreur for the Royal Opera; A Midsummer Night's Dream, Peter Grimes and The Turn of the Screw for English National Opera. Adam has also lit Aida for the Deutsche Oper Berlin; Tannhäuser for San Francisco Opera; Pique Dame for Bayerische Staatsoper; Dido Queen of Carthage at the Royal National Theatre; the premiere of the play Five Gold Rings for The Almeida Theatre; the musical Beauty and the Beast for the Royal Shakespeare Company; Cider House Rules for the Atlantic Theatre, Power Plays for Manhattan Theatre Club and A Day in the Death of Joe Egg on Broadway. Upcoming productions include Billy Budd and Julius Caesar for English National Opera and Un Ballo in Maschera for the Metropolitan Opera.

The Los Angeles Philharmonic’s fully-staged presentation of Don Giovanni is the first installment of an ambitious three-year Mozart/Da Ponte opera project, developed in partnership with today’s most influential architects and leading fashion designers. Each complete opera will be a Walt Disney Concert Hall first. Joining Gustavo Dudamel and the Los Angeles Philharmonic for Don Giovanni is architect Frank Gehry, returning to the landmark building of his own design to create a set he describes as a “moving still-life on the stage”; and California natives Kate and Laura Mulleavy - the creative force behind the internationally recognized fashion house Rodarte - who make their operatic costume debut. Christopher Alden directs an international cast led by Polish baritone Mariusz Kwiecien, one of the world’s leading Don Giovannis. Le nozze di Figaro, the second installment of the LA Phil’s Mozart/Da Ponte trilogy, will be performed in May 2013, and the trilogy will conclude with a production of Così fan tutte in May 2014.
