Rogue Machine's HOUSE Extends Run thru Sept 1

The West Coast premiere of HOUSE by Daniel MacIvor is extending its run schedule through September 1, 2012, at Rogue Machine. After August 11th, all Friday shows play at 10pm and Saturday shows play at 8pm (August 4th is now at 8pm).

Last season it was their 2011 BEST PRODUCTION (Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle, LA Weekly, Ovation, and Garland Awards) Small Engine Repair which launched Rogue Machine’s “Off The Clock” series. Now in that slot, the popular one-man show HOUSE extends its run through the summer.

Victor is a man in crisis, eager to confess tales of his sordid history with the hope of achieving a more satisfying future. Blurring boundaries between actor and audience this unpredictable ride is riddled with black humor and vivid storytelling.

DONNIE SMITH (Victor) performed in the award-winning world premiere production of Small Engine Repair (Ovation, LADCC, Backstage Garland & LA Weekly Awards) as well as the 2010 & 2011 “Around The Clock” Festival. Selected stage credits include: The Mousetrap (Drury Lane); Pentecost (Chicago Irish Rep); Romeo and Juliet (Chicago Shakespeare, NEA Tour); A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and The Merchant Of Venice (Illinois Shakespeare Festival); David Copperfield, The Water Engine, Division Street: America (Steppenwolf). Film credits include: Stand Up Guys, The Lincoln Lawyer, Fame, Gamer, The Ugly Truth, The Midnight Meat Train, and Undiscovered.

Daniel MacIvor (Playwright) won a GLAAD Award and a Village Voice Obie Award for his play In On It. He is a stalwart of the Canadian theatre scene, having written and directed numerous award-winning productions including See Bob Run, Wild Abandon, 2-2-Tango, This Is A Play, The Soldiers Dreams, A Beautiful View, and Communion! He received the Governor General’s Literary Award for Drama for his collection of plays I Still Love You. In 2007, his play His Greatness won the Jessie Richardson Award for Best New Play in Vancouver. In 2008, he was awarded the prestigious Siminovitch prize in Theatre. His work has been translated into French, Portuguese, Spanish, Czech, German and Japanese. From 1987-2007 (with Sherri Johnson), he ran dad a kamera, the international touring company which brought his work to Australia, the UK and throughout the US and Canada. As a filmmaker, Daniel has written and directed the feature films Past Perfect, Wilby Wonderful and the short films Permission and Until I Hear From You, and he is the writer of the feature films Trigger, Marion Bridge and co-writer (with Amnon Buchbinder) of Whole New Thing. Daniel is playwright in residence at Tarragon Theatre in Toronto.

BRIAN NITZKIN (Director) directed the regional premieres of Just Thinking (Bailiwick Repertory Theatre) and The Two Part Invention (The Side Project). Additionally, Brian has directed productions of Patrick Marber’s Dealer’s Choice, Ethan Phillips’ Penguin Blues and Jeffry Hatcher’s Three Viewings. As a producer, Brian has presented readings of new works such as Alias Grace (based on the novel by Margaret Atwood), US (a new musical co-authored by Peter Gabriel), and The Fisher King (based on the Academy Award-winning film).

Jennifer Pollono (Producer), and John PerriN FLYNN (Producer/Artistic Director).

ROGUE MACHINE presents plays that are new to Los Angeles. The company has garnered recognition for their work in upwards of 45 awards and nominations, including the Polly Warfield Award for Excellent Season in Small to MidSize Theater, funded by the Nederlander Organization, and the BEST PRODUCTION Award (two consecutive years) from the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circle, Ovation, and Garland). The company just picked up seven LA Weekly Awards including one for BEST PRODUCTION for Small Engine Repair by John Pollono. Since 2008 Rogue Machine has produced 3 Los Angeles Premiere (BLACKBIRD, COMPLEAT FEMALE STAGE BEAUTY, and STOP KISS) 9 West Coast Premiere (WHERE THE GREAT ONES RUN, FOUR PLACES, THE WORD BEGINS, WISH I HAD A SYLVIA PLATH, BHUTAN, MilkMilkLemonade, AMERICAN DEAD, BINGO WITH THE INDIANS, and HALF OF PLENTY), 1 American Premiere (NEVERLAND), and 6 World Premiere productions (the multi-award winning SMALL ENGINE REPAIR, MONKEY ADORED, YARD SALE SIGNS, RAZORBACK, SHORTS & SWEETS, and the award winning production of Henry Murray’s TREEFALL, now published by Dramatist Play Services). Last year Rogue Machine worked extensively with multi-award winner Steven Sater (SPRING AWAKENING) in developing his play NEW YORK ANIMALS. The company draws upon the diverse and extensive experience of its collective while creating high-quality productions by contemporary playwrights who specifically address our culture and time.
