THROUGH THE NIGHT Nominated For AUDELCO & L.A. Stage Alliance Ovation Awards

Daniel Beaty's acclaimed solo show Through the Night has received a slew of honors throughout the month of October. The production has been nominated for the 2010 Vivian Robinson AUDELCO Recognition Award for Best Solo Performance. The L.A. Stage Alliance Ovation Awards just honored the recent Los Angeles production of Through the Night (Geffen Playhouse) with a total of five nominations in the following categories: Production of a Play (Large Theatre), Director of a Play, Lead Actor in a Play, Lighting Design (Large Theatre), and Sound Design (Large Theatre).

Daryl Roth, in association with Jana Robbins, presents Through the Night, the acclaimed solo show written and performed by Daniel Beaty, in an extended run Off Broadway, now playing at The Union Square Theatre. Directed by Charles Randolph-Wright, Through the Night opened on September 26, 2010 to rave reviews. Mr. Beaty's last New York stage appearance was in 2006, winning an Obie Award for his acclaimed solo show Emergency (formerly Emergence-SEE!) at The Public Theater.

Through the Night is being presented with the enthusiastic participation of a "Who's Who" of artists and influencers who are acting as Artistic Ambassadors for the production. This select group, lending support through a variety of audience development efforts, includes Bill Cosby, Ruby Dee, Professor Henry Louis Gates, Jr., Thelma Golden, Hill Harper, LaTonya Richardson Jackson, Brian Stokes Mitchell, Phylicia Rashad, Ben Vereen, Pauletta Washington, and Malik Yoba.

Six characters. Three generations. One unforgettable performance. Mr. Beaty portrays an entire cast of characters, from inquisitive boy to elder preacher, spinning a tale in which lives collide to show how hope, faith and love can pull anyone Through the Night. The annual Vivian Robinson/AUDELCO Recognition Awards are the only formally established awards presented to the black theatre community. Every third Monday in November the nominees are awarded in various categories.

Founded in 1989, the LA Stage Alliance Ovation Awards are the only peer-judged theatre awards in Los Angeles, created to recognize excellence in theatrical performance, production, and design in the Greater Los Angeles area. Each year, 400 productions compete in 29 Ovation Categories, and are scored by a pool of around 250 vetted Ovation Voters. The final scores are tabulated in September each year, and the Awards are presented at a black-tie ceremony at the end of the year.
