TRIASSIC PARQ, TIME STANDS STILL and More Set for Chance Theater's 2013 Season

Chance-Theater-Announces-2013-Season-20010101

Chance Theater has announced its boldest season ever. Chance subscribers and audiences will be taken on seven journeys during 2013, from prehistoric dinosaurs trying to find love, to a musical about a President trying to rock out to democracy, from a young girl finding a secret garden to a young man whose spirit lives on more than ten years after his death, This truly is the season to "Chance it" and join Southern California's bravest and most audacious theatre company!

CHANCE THEATER 2013 SEASON is:

January 25 - February 17, 2013
WEST COAST PREMIERE!
TRIASSIC PARQ - THE MUSICAL
Music by Marshall Pailet
Book by Marshall Pailet, Bryce Norbitz and Steve Wargo
Directed by Marshall Pailet

TRIASSIC PARQ – THE MUSICAL, 2010's Best Musical winner at FringeNYC, comes to The Chance straight from an off-Broadway run The New York Times called "Flat-out ingenious".
A fresh new musical with as much heart as raunchy wit, Triassic Parq is the story of Jurassic Park told from the perspective of the dinosaurs. It takes a minor premise from the movie - that a handful of the genetically engineered female dinosaurs have spontaneously turned male - and runs with it until the audience's legs get tired. An epic tale of love, loss and interspecies fornication, these resurrected reptiles will touch you in ways both moving and inappropriate. The ride is ridiculous to say the least, but beneath the absurdity and chaos is a sincere story of identity crisis and loss of faith. What you're about to see is one of those sincere moments - two T-Rexes struggle to redefine their friendship now that one of them has sprouted a new appendage down below … and the other has not.

April 19 - May 12, 2013
First Time Done in Repertory!
THE LARAMIE PROJECT
&
THE LARAMIE PROJECT - TEN YEARS LATER
by Moises Kaufman and Tectonic Theatre Project

In honor of The Chance Theater's 15th Anniversary Season, we bring you a theatrical event that combines past and present. The critically acclaimed Laramie Project, produced at The Chance in 2005, will run in rep with the recent history-making epilogue The Laramie Project: Ten Years Later. These two pieces will celebrate the Chance history while continuing to bring the most current, provocative work to our community.

In 1998, the brutal murder of a gay college student, Matthew Shepard, made the town of Laramie, Wyoming the focus of an international news story. The Laramie Project, adapted from a collection of real-life interviews, is a cultural pulse-taking that examines the events of the murder and its aftermath while asking the question 'Could this be our town?'

10 years later, the same team traveled back to Laramie to investigate the long-term effects of this event. This powerful sequel reveals a range of views from regret to denial, and includes first-time interviews with Shepard's murderers as well as his mother. The Laramie Project: Ten Years Later explores how the town has changed in the last 10 years and how we measure that change. This powerful companion piece asks us to look at a town -- and a nation -- wrestling with its legacy and its place in history.

You're about to see scenes from both pieces – First, with the attack on Matthew Shepard very recent, residents of Laramie speak about being gay in small town America. Then we fast-forward to the 10 year anniversary of the attack, when a local newspaper editorial sheds light on the community's conflicting views of history.

July 5 - August 4, 2013
ORANGE COUNTY PREMIERE!
BLOODY BLOODY Andrew Jackson
Book by Alex Timbers
Music and Lyrics by Michael Friedman

The show is a satiric Wild West grunge/indy pop rock musical about the founding of the Democratic Party. It redefines Andrew Jackson, America's seventh President, as an Emo rock star and focuses on populism, the Indian Removal Act, and his relationship with his wife Rachel.
