The Road Theatre Presents THE DETECTIVE'S WIFE, 10/19-12/15

The Road Theatre Company and Taylor Gilbert, Founder/Artistic Director together with Sam Anderson, Artistic Director, have announced the first production of their 22nd season, the west coast premiere of THE DETECTIVE'S WIFE, written by Keith Huff (The Bird and Mr. Banks, Pursued by Happiness, A Steady Rain), directed by Mark St. Amant (The Bird and Mr. banks, Pursued by Happiness) and starring Taylor Gilbert as Alice Conroy.

THE DETECTIVE'S WIFE will preview on Friday, October 19 at 8pm; Sunday, October 21 at 2pm and Wednesday, October 24 at 8pm and will open on Friday, October 26 at 8pm and run through Saturday, December 15 at the Historic Lankershim Arts Center, 5108 Lankershim Blvd. in North Hollywood, Calif.

Alice Conroy is the mother of two grown children, owner of a frame store and wife of a Chicago homicide detective. When her husband is gunned down on the job, she sets out to find out who did it...and why.

Keith Huff (Playwright) is currently Writer/Producer for the upcoming David Fincher/NetFlix series House of Cards, featuring Kevin Spacey and Robin Wright. He is also writing the screenplay for a Chicago-based thriller Kill Switch for Alexandra Milchan (New Regency & EMJAG Films). He has written the film adaptation of A Steady Rain for Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson (EON Films), original pilots for HBO, Steven Spielberg/Dreamworks TV, and AMC, and was Writer/Co-Producer for season 4 of AMC's Emmy- and Golden Globe Award-winning series Mad Men, for which he won a 2011 Writers Guild Award (Best Drama Series). Recent Theater Productions include The Detective's Wife (Writer's Theater), A Steady Rain featuring Daniel Craig and Hugh Jackman (Broadway), and Pursued By Happiness and The Bird and Mr. Banks (Road Theater). Upcoming Theater Productions include Big Lake Big City at Chicago's Lookingglass Theater (directed by David Schwimmer) and productions of The Detective's Wife in Milwaukee and Los Angeles. A Steady Rain continues to be produced across the US and around the world, most recently in France (Paris & national tour), Buenos Aires, Mexico City, Spain (Barcelona & Catalan tour), and Canada. It is currently running in Hungary and Greece, on tour in Argentina (with Rodrigo de la Serna and Jaoquin Furriel), Chile, and Uruguay, and new productions are scheduled to open in Brazil, Prague, Venezuala, Tokyo, Colombia, Madrid, and London's West End in 2012-2013. Keith has an MFA from the University of Iowa's Playwright's Workshop, is a Resident Alumnus at Chicago Dramatists, and is the recipient of a Joseph Jefferson Award, the Cunningham Prize, the John Gassner Award, the Berrilla Kerr Award, and three Illinois Arts Council Playwriting Fellowships. He currently divides his time between Chicago and Los Angeles, but his home base is Chicago, where he lives with his wife, Georgette, and his daughter, Robin.

MARK ST. AMANT (Director) is thrilled to be collaborating once again with Keith Huff at the Road, having directed their long-running, West Coast premiere of THE BIRD AND MR. BANKS, as well as playing Frank Orlis, in the World premiere of PURSUED BY HAPPINESS.
Most recently, he played Buddy Burl, in Mark Roberts', WHERE THE GREAT ONES RUN at RogueMachine Theatre. Previously at RogueMachine: AMERCIAN DEAD (Backstage Garland Award for Lead Performance in a Play) Mark also directed the West Coast premiere of BROADSWORD: A HEAVY METAL PLAY at the Black Dahlia Theatre, Gwendolyn Yeo's, LAUGHING WITH MY MOUTH WIDE OPEN, and I AM YOURS for MadScene Theatre Co. at the Ivy Sub Station. Other Road Credits include: AS WHITE AS O (World Premiere), AND NEITHER HAVE I WINGS TO FLY (Ovation Nominations - Best Play and Ensemble), and BIG DEATH & LITTLE DEATH (West Coast premiere). Also at the Road: Directed the L.A. premiere of Marisa Wegrzyn's, THE BUTCHER OF BARABOO. A Road member since 2006, Mark has served on their Artistic Board, as Literary Chairman, and is presently Chairman of their Summer Playwrights Festival. He has appeared in theatre, film, television, and commercials around the country, working with such directors as Adrian Hall, Robert Falls, Michael Maggio, Gary Griffin, Rondi Reed, and Joanna Settle, at theatres including The Kennedy Center, The Goodman Theatre, American Theatre Company, Victory Gardens Theatre, Drury Lane Theatre, New Arts Theatre, Dallas Theatre Center, New American Theatre, Apple Tree Theatre, Circle Theatre, and Casa Manana. While attending Texas Tech University, Mark had the distinction of being the only student in the history of the American College Theatre Festival to become a two-time national Finalist in the Irene Ryan Acting Competition, held annually at the Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington D.C.

TAYLOR GILBERT (Alice Conroy) is celebrating her 22nd season as Founder and Artistic Director of The Road Theatre Company. Producing credits include more than 60 critically acclaimed productions for The Road Theatre Company. Directing credits include the award-winning In The Name of the People, Mooncalf, My Last Confession, The Chisholm Trail Went through Here, Slumber Party. As co-Director (with Ken Sawyer): Hitler's Head, Homefires. Theatre acting credits for The Road Theatre include: Balm in Gilead, Why Things Burn, Vig, Pirates, Akela, Merlin, An American Romance, White People, A Mislaid Heaven, The Seventh Monarch, The Pagans, Oroboros, Backwards in High Heels, And Neither Have I Wings to Fly, Madagascar (Ticket Holder Award- Best Actress in a Play).

Film acting credits include: Spiderman (1 & 2), Hancock, The Island, Twister, Tucker, The Dead Pool, The McMartin Trials, Torment. Awards: As a Producer, over 130 regional theatre awards, including: the Margaret Harford Award for Sustained Excellence in Theatre, the 2002 Los Angeles Stage Alliance Ovation Award (Best Production of a Small Play) for The Woman in Black and 2010 Certificate of Commendation from the City of Los Angeles for contributing 20 years of award-winning theatre to the community.

THE DETECTIVE'S WIFE features an award-winning design team. The Scenic Design is by Stephanie Kerley Schwartz. The Costume Design is by Jocelyn Hublau Parker. The Lighting Design is by Kathi O'Donohue. The Sound Design is by David B. Marling. The Projection Design is by Jason H. Thompson. The producers are Dana Lyn Baron, Zeljka Gortinski and Suzanne Hunt.
