Theatre of NOTE Presents POTENTIAL SPACE World Premiere, 9/21-10/27

Theatre of NOTE continues its 2012 season with the world premiere of POTENTIAL SPACE written by Kirsten Vangsness and directed by Bill Voorhees. POTENTIAL SPACE will preview Friday, September 21st and Saturday, September 22nd, and will open on Friday, September 28th at 8pm and run through Saturday, October 27th at Theatre of NOTE, 1517 N. Cahuenga Blvd. (just north of Sunset) in Hollywood.

POTENTIAL SPACE is about Dulcie, who looks for a boy to distract her from the sad reality that herbest friend is dying. Dulcie is wired in a way that makes sex painful. Her vagina may be a potentially open space, but presently it’s a locked door. This unique play tells the story of how she opens it up and ultimately finds the wide, limitless space inside herself.

Kirsten Vangsness (Playwright) a Los Angeles native, Kirsten has been in a number of plays at NOTE. To name a few: MULHOLLAND CHRISTMAS CAROL, FIGURE 8, PITY OF THINGS, SPIDER BITES, KILL ME DEADLY; (soon to be a feature film details at killmedeadly.com) as well as around town; in venues such as the Geffen Playhouse (FAT PIG, for which she won a Garland Award for Best Actress). She is an executive producer of PRETTY (prettytheseries.com) and plays Garcia on CBS’ CRIMINAL MINDS.

BILL VOORHEES (Director) Bill Voorhees was the director of NOTE's celebrated production of SKELETON STORIES at Theatre of NOTE. He also directed a critically acclaimed production of BEIRUT and recently directed THE CRUCIBLE at The Lillian Theatre. Other directing credits include THE BOYS NEXT DOOR, THE MIRACLE WORKER, EXTREMITIES, ORPHANS and DOG LOGIC.

The cast of POTENTIAL SPACE features: Tristan Butler (A Big Love Story), Grace Eboigbe (Hearts Like Fists, They’re Just Like Us), Jenny Flack (Acceptable TV), Eric Gutierrez (sxtape), Lauren Letherer (Die Hard 2), Trevor Olsen (Figure 8) and Stephen Simon (Ten West, Water for Elephants), Kirsten Vangsness (Criminal Minds), Wendi West (Kill Me, Deadly), and David Wilcox (Just Say No).

POTENTIAL SPACE features the design talents of an impressive array of Los Angeles area designers including: scenic design by Vincent Jefferds (production designer, CRIMINAL MINDS), lighting design by Matt Richter (2011 Ovation nominee for SHOE STORY and SKELTON STORIES), sound by Bryan Maier (2011 Ovation Nominee for sound design for SHOE STORY), costumes by Kimberly Freed. graphic design/Vagina Map Artists - Brian Christenson & Jophen Stein. The production stage manager is Kelly Egan.

Since its inception, NOTE has been through several transitions, but the integrity of the original idea has always remained intact. We premiere an average of four main stage productions a year, by writers such as W.H. Auden, Bertolt Brecht, Sheila Callaghan, Christopher Kelley, Tony Kushner, Jennifer Maisel, Leon Martell, Murray Mednick, Dennis Miles, John O'Keefe, Erik Patterson, Bill Robens and Jacqueline Wright. NOTE also upholds a tradition of acclaimed late-night shows, first launched in 1988, in addition to the now-annual, notorious, celebrity-crowd art magnet, The Hollywood Performance Marathon. We have earned consistent commendation from the Los Angeles press and national acclaim from such publications as American Theatre. In all, NOTE has accumulated almost 100 honors and nominations, including awards from the LA WEEKLY, BackStage West, L.A. Stage Alliance (Ovations), and PEN International.
