Theatre of NOTE continues the celebration of its 30th anniversary with an homage to its roots of producing orginal one act plays: Pity of Things, an evening of 5 one act plays written by, Jason Grote (Kawaisoo), Phinneas Kiyomura (The Little Darling), Bill Robens (Breaking), Tommy Smith (PTSD) and Delondra Williams (Desert Aria). The plays will be directed by Sabrina Lloyd (Kawaisoo), Phinneas Kiyomura (The Little Darling), Jaime Robledo, Sabina Ptasznik, Christopher William Johnson (Desert Aria). Pity of Things will preview on Thursday, July 14 at 8pm and will open on Friday, July 15th at 8pm and run through Saturday, August 7th at Theatre of NOTE, 1517 N. Cahuenga Blvd. (just North of Sunset) in Hollywood.
Pity of Things is an homage to Theatre of NOTE's origins. Orginally, known as Theatre of N. O. T. E. (New One Act Theatre Ensemble) this evening is a collection of five moving and haunting one-act plays which through humor, fantasy and heart isolates and elevates moments of the human condition and reflects the power of the one-act play. PITY OF THINGS is a throw back that embraces the simplicity of the basic elements in the art of live theatre.

Jason Grote (Kawaisoo) plays include 1001, Maria/Stuart, and Darwin's Challenge. They have been produced/developed/commissioned by Sundance, The O'Neill, The Denver Center, Woolly Mammoth, ACT, The Foundry,
The Civilians, The Lark, Salvage Vanguard, Watermill, Mass MoCA, Collaboraction, and elsewhere. He was the 2006 P73 Fellow and is a member of
New Dramatists. He is currently a staff writer for NBC's Smash, premiering February 2012.
Phinneas Kiyomura (The Little Darling) is a writer, actor, and director. Previous work includes Woods (Padua Playwrights), Famous Blue Raincoat (Company of Angels) and critically acclaimed Lydia In Bed (Theatre of NOTE).
Bill Robens (Breaking) has authored several shows that premiered at Theatre of NOTE, including A Fish Without His Flippers (2006), the noir comedy Kill Me, Deadly (2009) and the perennial Hollywood favorite A Mulholland Christmas Carol, which earned Bill an LA WEEKLY Award for Best Adaptation and is returning to NOTE, Christmas of 2012. He is also co-founder of the
Production Company Opiate of the Masses and is spending the summer filming the screen adaptation of Kill Me, Deadly.
Tommy Smith (PTSD) Plays include Pigeon (EST; directed by Billy Carden), The Wife (Access Gallery; directed by
May Adrales), White Hot (
HERE Arts Center; directed by
May Adrales), Sextet (Washington Ensemble Theatre; directed by Roger Benington), among others. Recently, his feature film, Figment, was optioned by Ridley Scott's
Production Company ScottFree. A Juilliard grad, he lives in NYC
Delondra Williams (Desert Aria). studied Theatre Arts at Central Washington University . Her short plays have been seen at Central Theatre Ensemble, The Kennedy Center and the Hollywood Fringe Festival. Her Ovation-recommended play, Skeleton Stories, premiered at Theatre of NOTE in October 2010. Desert Aria will be her third play at NOTE, and was a finalist for the 2010 Heideman Award and the Humana Festival of New American Plays.

William Johnson (Desert Aria) was founding artistic director of Chicago's award-winning Defiant Theatre. Directing credits include Macbeth, A Clockwork Orange, Balacarita: The Adventures of Young Krishna, Titus Andronicus, Dulcitius, Apt Pupil and Hamlet. Credits as playwright include Godbaby, Dope, Like Family and a Jeff Citation for his adaptation of
Thomas Harris's
Red Dragon. He has appeared as an actor at the
Goodman Theatre,
Chicago Shakespeare Theatre, Lyric Opera, Chicago Opera Theatre, The Building Stage, Redmoon Theatre and Defiant.
Phinneas Kiyomura (The Little Darling) is a writer, actor, and director. Previous work includes Woods (Padua Playwrights), Famous Blue Raincoat (Company of Angels) and critically acclaimed Lydia In Bed (Theatre of NOTE).
Sabrina Lloyd (Kawaisoo) ) is grateful to be back at NOTE. She has an MFA in Directing from Indiana University, was the Artistic Director of GroundUp Theatre in Chicago for close to a decade, and received her BFA in Acting from Florida State University, in reverse chronological order.
Jaime Robledo (Breaking) is proud to be making his NOTE directing debut. Recent directing credits: Watson: The Last Great Tale of the Legendary Sherlock Holmes (winner of two LA WEEKLY Awards including Comedy Direction); Neighborhood 3: Requisition of Doom (Ovation nominated for Sound Design); both at Sacred Fools. Next directing assignment at Fools: Stoneface: The Rise and Fall and Rise of Buster premiering May 2012.
Sabina Ptasznik (PTSD) moved to L.A. after finishing her Directing MFA at The New School for Drama in NYC. Recent credits: Our Town at The Sierra Madre Playhouse; 20th Century Way at Theatre at Boston Court; Tree at
Ensemble Studio Theatre-LA (assistant director for both). Her upcoming project is The Woodsman with Theatre Unleashed.
