Development Assistant - Virginia Repertory Theatre

Virginia Repertory Theatre is seeking a Development Assistant to join our full-time staff. This individual will work closely with Virginia Rep’s Development Team and will report to the Assistant Director of Development. The Development Assistant will have an opportunity to gain administrative experience in this key role at a major nonprofit performing arts organization in Richmond, VA.

Position Responsibilities:

● Process gifts made by individual, corporate, and foundation donors in Tessitura.

● Maintain donor information in Tessitura.

● Maintain Development files and records.

● Create and mail donor acknowledgement letters within one week of donation receipt.

● Assist with preparation and mailing of all solicitation letters.

● Run reports through Tessitura.

● Conduct funder prospect research.

General Responsibilities:

● Participate in full staff, Development team, and one-on-one meetings.

● Attend and help facilitate the annual Anything Goes Gala and other events.

● Additional responsibilities as assigned.

Desired Qualifications:

● Excellent interpersonal communication skills.

● Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.

● Familiarity with nonprofit fundraising.

● Familiarity with performing arts organizations, preferably professional theatre.

● Willingness to work both collaboratively and independently.

● Ability to understand and respect social nuances, practices, and views of people of various backgrounds, identities, and cultures, and effectively interact with people of diverse communities.

● Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Google Suite (Docs, Sheets).

● Experience with databases and/or knowledge of Tessitura CRM preferred.



Physical Requirements:

● Periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

● Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.



The Development Assistant position is an entry-level, full-time, non-exempt position with a starting salary of $32,000 plus benefits including health insurance, paid time off, and retirement with a company match.
