The world premiere of The Cruise by Jonathan Ceniceroz opens March 16 at The Los Angeles Theatre Center. Low-priced previews begin March 10.

Due to extraordinary ticket sales, Center Theatre Group's 'Zoot Suit' has announced a second one-week extension. Performances will now continue through March 26, 2017, at the Mark Taper Forum. Previews for 'Zoot Suit' began January 31. Written and directed by Luis Valdez, 'Zoot Suit' is presented in association with El Teatro Campesino. On Thursday evening, January 12, 2017, Long Beach Opera (LBO), the Office of Long Beach Vice Mayor Rex Richardson, and the Arts Council of Long Beach will co-sponsor THE BARD, THE QUEEN AND THE CLASH: A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM THROUGH THE PRISM OF CHICANO ART, a discussion with the California-based performance troupe Culture Clash about the Chicano Theater movement, artistic collaboration, satirical comedy, and everything in between. The presentation will be held at 7:00 PM in the new Michelle Obama Library, Long Beach, California.

Long Beach Opera (LBO) opens its 2017 season on January 22 and 28, 2017 with Henry Purcell's 1692 The Fairy Queen, a re-telling of A Midsummer Night's Dream. The California-based performance troupe Culture Clash and LBO's Artistic and General Director Andreas Mitisek put their spin on this immortal tale. The Fairy Queen will be performed at the Beverly O'Neill Theater, 300 E. Ocean Boulevard, Long Beach CA. 90802.

Chicago's historic Studebaker Theater will become the home of live opera with a contemporary adaptation of Henry Purcell's 1692 "The Fairy Queen," a reimagining of Shakespeare's "A Midsummer Night's Dream" presented by Chicago Opera Theater (COT) beginning November 5. The California-based performance troupe Culture Clash and COT's Andreas Mitisek put a modernized spin on Purcell's adaptation of Shakespeare's classic with an edgy and hilarious examination of the messes mere mortals make of relationships. "The Fairy Queen" will be performed at Chicago's historicStudebaker Theater (410 S. Michigan Ave). The press performance will be November 5 at 7:30 p.m.Subsequent performances will be November 11 at 7:30 p.m. and November 13 at 3 p.m.

Amigos del REP and San Diego Repertory Theatre (San Diego REP) have announced the schedule of their free reading series by Latino/a artists for the remainder of 2016. The six performances in San Diego REP's Lyceum Stage and Lyceum Space theatres include the variety show "Club Cafe" produced by John Padilla and Dave Rivas; "King Liz" written by Fernanda Coppel (ABC's "How to Get Away with Murder") and directed by Elsa Martinez; the politically driven "The Sweetheart Deal" written and directed by Center Theatre Group's Associate Artistic Director Diane Rodriguez; "El Cipitio," a collaboration from original Culture Clash members Herbert Siguenza and Ric Salinas withRandy Ertll, directed by Siguenza and based on Ertll's novel "The Lives and Times of El Cipitio;" the annual Dia de los Muertos celebration "Historias Tenebrosas" produced by Dave Rivas; and a yet to be announced family-friendly holiday show presented in December at the Downtown Central Library, directed by Bryant Hernandez.

Artistic and General Director Andreas Mitisek today announced Long Beach Opera's (LBO) 2017 season. “LBO's 38th season will offer four operas new to Southern California,” said Mitisek. “We'll bring stories that play against the tide of conventions and that are also quintessentially American. And, we'll work alongside a broad range of collaborators to tell these stories. As always, to paraphrase Robert Frost, we take the road less travelled, and that makes all the difference.

PLACAS: The Most Dangerous Tattoo by 2015 Doris Duke Artist Award-winner and celebrated spoken word artist Paul S.
