Rubicon Theatre Company continues its 2010-2011 Season with MASTER HAROLD...AND THE BOYS, a powerful and compelling drama by Athol Fugard which begins previews February 9 at Rubicon's intimate 195-seat home in Ventura's Downtown Cultural District. Set in the 1950s, MASTER HAROLD is the story of an adolescent white South African torn between his relationship with the black waiters who have befriended and cared for him, and the principles instilled in him by his father, an injured war veteran who is alternately absent and abusive. Recipient of the New York Drama Desk Award and London's Evening Standard for Best Play, this gripping drama has much to say about how racism can be passed from one generation to the next. Directed by Rubicon Associate Producer BRIAN McDONALD, the production features DANIEL STEWART, ANTHONY (TONY) HANEY and CHRIS MADDOX.

New York Theatre Intensives/New Play Summer Conservatory in association with the artists of the Ensemble Studio Theatre is offering its second summer conservatory in New York City. The six-week play development program is an intensive and immersive process for student actors, writers and directors which was offered for the first time last year. This year the Conservatory will include a three-week intensive for student lighting designers.

A provocative, wild, unpredictable new play, The Many Mistresses of Martin Luther King is a darkly humorous expose of a modern American family of mixed races and second wives set in a university town with all its attendant politics, both academic and racial. This smart theatrical tour de force presents characters who behave badly but never according to the usual stereotypes. Familiar talking points about race in America are turned on their head, and there is certainly no preaching to the converted. Prepare to have assumptions and expectations challenged in this daring new work by New York playwright, Andrew Dolan.
