AMERICAN IDIOT, a 2010 Tony Award-nominated Best Musical and 2010 Grammy Award winner for Best Musical Show Album, features the music of Green Day with lyrics by lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong. The book is by Armstrong and Michael Mayer and direction is by Tony Award-winner Mayer (Spring Awakening).

Green Days AMERICAN IDIOT tells the story of three boyhood friends, each searching for meaning in a post 9-11 world. Through incredible spectacle, thrilling performances and with the hope embodied by a new generation, AMERICAN IDIOT has been giving audiences the time of their lives night after night on its international tour in the same way it did during its acclaimed Broadway run at the St. James Theatre from March 2010 to April 2011.

The musical features the hits Boulevard of Broken Dreams, Wake Me Up When September Ends, Holiday and the blockbuster title track American Idiot from Green Days 2004 Grammy Award-winning, multi-platinum album. Also included in the score are several songs from Green Days Grammy Award-winning 2009 release 21st Century Breakdown including 21 Guns and an unreleased love song, When Its Time.

BWW Reviews: Green Day's AMERICAN IDIOT Rocks the Hippodrome But Lacks Story
by Giordana Segneri - May 8, 2013

Green Day lead singer Billie Joe Armstrong, who wrote this rock opera's lyrics, and his punk rock band that created its unstoppably vibrant music weren't going for "comfortable." They were aiming, along with co-creator and director Michael Mayer (who picked up a Tony for his direction of Spring Awakening), to offer a musical production that breaks ground for its in-your-face punk rock approach to storytelling and its entirely unapologetic tale of sex, drugs and (punk) rock n' roll. And while there's lots of all of the above-and all very well done-there's not so much in the way of a plot with any depth. (more...)
