Following yesterday's World Record setting event at Monty Python's SPAMALOT, Guinness World Record officials certified today that 1,789 people had participated in the "World's Largest Coconut Orchestra" by gathering in Shubert Alley and joining in a rendition of "Always Look on the Bright Side of Life."

It had previously been announced yesterday that 1,199 people had participated, but after reviewing the registration forms, Guinness World Records issued the official number of 1,789.

Alistair Richards, Chief Operating Officer, Guinness World Records said, "Guinness World Recordsä is honored to recognize Monty Python's SPAMALOT as a new member of our record-breaking family. We congratulate the Spamalot cast on this remarkable achievement in setting the record for the 'Largest Coconut Orchestra' with 1,789 people on March 22, 2006."

SPAMALOT cast members including Tony Award nominees Christopher Sieber and Michael McGrath "conducted" the crowd that braved the cold to participate.

The Tony, Grammy award-winning and world record holding SPAMALAOT, a new musical, "lovingly ripped off" from the film, Monty Python and the Holy Grail, opened on March 17, 2005 to critical and popular acclaim, and soon became one of Broadway's toughest tickets.

Directed by Mike Nichols, SPAMALOT features a book and lyrics by Eric Idle, music by John Du Prez and Eric Idle, based on the screenplay of Monty Python and the Holy Grail by Monty Python creators Graham Chapman, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam, Eric Idle, Terry Jones and Michael Palin.

SPAMALOT won three 2005 Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and Best Director for Mike Nichols, as well as a Grammy Award for Best Musical Cast Album.

The National Tour recently opened to rave reviews and sold out houses in Boston. Other cities on the tour include Chicago, Washington D.C., Pittsburgh, Charlotte, Atlanta, Baltimore, Philadelphia, Houston, Kansas City, and Toronto.
