Tokyo String Quartet's Martin Beaver and Clive Greensmith Join Colburn Conservatory of Music

It was announced today (October 10th 2012) that world renowned Tokyo String Quartet members Martin Beaver and Clive Greensmith are to join the Colburn Conservatory of Music as directors of the school's string chamber music program.

Sel Kardan, President and CEO of The Colburn School said:

"Beginning in 2009 with the appointment of Arnold Steinhardt, The Colburn School has made an extraordinary investment in chamber music training at the highest level. With the addition of Martin Beaver and Clive Greensmith as applied faculty of the Conservatory of Music, The Colburn School will now have one of the pre-eminent faculties for string quartet and chamber music repertoire in the world."

Violinist Martin Beaver and cellist Clive Greensmith will join the Conservatory faculty in fall 2013, where they will chair the Conservatory's string chamber music program, and teach privately in their own studios. Under the guidance of these two world renowned chamber musicians, Colburn students will refine and further develop their skills and undertake in-depth study of the string quartet repertoire.
Richard Beene, Dean of the Conservatory said:

"One of the cornerstones of the Conservatory program is the study and performance of chamber music, including collaboration with faculty and guest artists from around the globe. With the addition of these accomplished artists, Colburn strengthens its goal of providing an education based on excellence in performance, creativity and scholarship, as well as fostering a sense of community involvement. I am thrilled to have Clive and Martin join the Conservatory to enrich the educational and artistic life at the school."

Mr. Beaver and Mr. Greensmith said:
"We are honored to join the faculty of the Colburn Conservatory of Music, with its outstanding reputation both in students and faculty, and to share our intimate knowledge of the string quartet repertoire with young aspiring chamber musicians," stated Mr. Beaver and Mr. Greensmith. "The opportunity to develop a newly created graduate string quartet program and teach individual students at Colburn gives us great pleasure at this point in our lives. As we enter our final season with the Tokyo String Quartet, we look forward to moving with our families to Los Angeles next summer and becoming a part of the Colburn community."
The 2012/13 season marks the Colburn Conservatory of Music's 10th Anniversary.
